A complex restoration project focused on preserving the character of a historic property while upgrading its hardware systems to meet modern building standards.
With occupancy rapidly approaching, more than 100 historically designed doors required a hardware solution capable of satisfying contemporary hurricane code requirements without compromising the property's architectural integrity. The challenge demanded a careful balance between heritage preservation, functionality, and regulatory compliance.
Working within an accelerated timeline, Artisans Hardware delivered a tailored solution that maintained the original design intent while providing the durability, performance, and reliability required for modern hospitality environments.
Challenge
More than 100 sets of historic doors needed to withstand hurricane-level winds while preserving the architectural character of the original openings. With 4 weeks until occupancy, the general contractor realized that the existing door handles would not meet the design, code, or functionality requirements.
Solution
The Artisans Hardware team flew to Miami to meet with the contractors and the owner's representative team to review the doors and inconsistencies among them.

- Analyzed the unique discrepancies from one door to the next, which presented a challenge with creating a consistent aesthetic across all doors
- Met and consulted with our machinists and finishing shop to ensure consistency
- Created a special finish to match what the owner envisioned
- Prepared and submitted a detailed presentation outlining the proposed hardware solution, technical requirements, and recommended approach.
- Within 3 weeks of approval, Artisans Hardware supplied and delivered the completed door handles on site
